This policy explains what information CradleNames collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: browsing the directory requires no account, and we collect as little as possible.
1. Information we collect
Browsing data. When you browse or search the public directory, no personal information is required. Your searches are processed to return results and are not linked to your identity.
Account data. If you create an admin account, we store your email address and a secure password hash so you can sign in. Accounts are used only for managing the name database.
Contact emails. If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send (typically your email address and message) and use it only to respond.
2. Cookies and advertising
CradleNames displays advertising. When ads are served, third-party advertising partners such as Google may set cookies or use similar technologies to deliver and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, and manage ad partners at aboutads.info. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the directory remains fully usable without them.
3. How we use information
- To operate the directory and return search results.
- To authenticate admin accounts.
- To respond to messages you send us.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data sharing
We share data only with service providers necessary to run the site: our hosting and database provider, and advertising partners described above. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of the site and its users.
5. Data retention
Contact emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry. Admin account records persist until the account is deleted. Aggregate usage data may be retained to improve the site.
6. Children's privacy
CradleNames is a general-audience reference site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. Since we collect very little, most requests simply involve deleting an account or a message you sent us. To exercise any right, email us at hello@cradlenames.org.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new "last updated" date at the top of this page.
